From disability rehabilitation to women empowerment, from child education to environmental sustainability, our programs address the multidimensional needs of the most vulnerable communities across Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts.

Program Area 01

Restoring Dignity. Rebuilding Lives.

Persons with disabilities are at the core of everything Manolayam Health Care Trust does. Our disability programs span residential care, early intervention, community-based rehabilitation, and livelihood support, ensuring every individual receives the care, education, and opportunity they deserve.

Special Schools for Intellectually Disabled

Manolayam Health Care Trust runs three fully residential special schools for children and adults with intellectual disabilities across two districts, all recognised by the State Commissioner for Disabled, Chennai.

  • Panankattugudi School - 29 children, ages 6-14
  • Lakshmangudi School - 43 adults, ages 18+
  • Early Intervention Centre, Velipalayam - ages 0-6

Services include special education, physiotherapy, speech therapy, music therapy, psychological counselling, vocational training, daily living skills, nutritious meals, clothing, and recreational activities.

Early Intervention Centre

Early childhood is the most critical window for developmental support. Our Early Intervention Centre in Velipalayam, Nagapattinam, works with intellectually disabled children from birth to age 6, providing stimulation therapy, medical support, and parent counselling to give every child the strongest possible start.

Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR)

Not all persons with disabilities can access residential facilities. Our Community-Based Rehabilitation program brings support directly to villages, identifying differently abled individuals, connecting them to government welfare schemes, and providing assistive devices and awareness.

Livelihood Support for Spinal Injury Patients

Spinal cord injury is one of the most devastating losses a person can face. Beyond medical care, MHCT provides income-generating tools to young, economically vulnerable spinal injury patients, enabling them to rebuild their lives with dignity.

Program Area 02

When Women Are Empowered, Families and Communities Transform.

Manolayam Health Care Trust has been championing women's rights, livelihoods, and wellbeing since its inception. Our women empowerment programs range from self-help group formation to vocational training, financial literacy, and support for women living with HIV.

Self-Help Group (SHG) Formation

SHGs are the backbone of rural women's economic empowerment. MHCT has formed over 240 Self-Help Groups across Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam, linking them to a combined credit network of ₹12 crore.

This year alone, 7 new SHGs were formed in Thiruvarur block with dedicated volunteer support, along with training in self-management and collective decision-making.

Impact: Financial independence, collective bargaining power, access to credit, and community leadership for rural women.

Vocational Skill Training - Tailoring

MHCT has trained 320 young women in tailoring through structured vocational training programs. Graduates have secured employment, started home-based businesses, and achieved financial independence.

HIV/AIDS Support for Women

We conducted a two-day HIV/AIDS knowledge training program for 45 participants, including young workers, medical practitioners, village health nurses, construction workers, social workers, and truck drivers.

Six HIV+ women received support through:

  • 10 country chicks each
  • Three-month food kit supply
  • Medical kit support

Goal: Empowering vulnerable women living with HIV to access services, maintain nutrition, and live with dignity.

Financial Literacy Program

Our cultural programs on financial literacy have reached over 3,000 community members, equipping women and families with practical money management skills, savings habits, and awareness of banking and government financial schemes.

Program Area 03

Informed Communities Are Healthier Communities.

Our health programs combine large-scale awareness campaigns with grassroots community health camps, reaching individuals in their own villages with life-saving information and preventive care.

Diabetes Awareness Program

Diabetes is one of the most prevalent yet manageable conditions in rural Tamil Nadu. MHCT's comprehensive diabetes awareness programs have reached over 2,000 individuals across multiple villages.

  • Indigenous dietary solutions and lifestyle changes
  • Regular blood sugar monitoring
  • Importance of adhering to prescribed medications
  • Collaboration with Primary Health Centre resource persons

Dengue Awareness Campaign

Through large-scale dengue van awareness campaigns, MHCT has reached over 15,000 individuals with critical information on dengue prevention, symptom identification, and timely medical care.

Road Safety Program

Our road safety awareness drives have educated over 10,000 members of the public on traffic rules, safe road behaviour, and accident prevention, contributing to safer roads across our operational areas.

Women & Child Health Camps

Health camps were conducted across 6 villages, focusing on:

  • Sanitation and personal hygiene
  • Dental hygiene awareness
  • Eye care and vision health
  • Prevention of dengue, diabetes, and hypertension
  • Maternal and child nutrition

Goal: Empowering women and families to practise self-health management and adopt healthier lifestyles.

COVID-19 Response

During the COVID-19 pandemic, MHCT stepped up with timely mask distribution across the community, safeguarding the health of thousands of vulnerable individuals during the crisis.

Every Child Has the Right to Learn and Grow.

Education is the most lasting investment we can make in a child's future. Our education programs ensure that poverty, disability, or circumstance never becomes a barrier to learning.

Chief Minister's Morning Breakfast Scheme

Under the Tamil Nadu CM's Morning Breakfast Scheme, MHCT serves daily nutritious breakfast to 350 students (Classes 1-5) across 5 government primary schools, ensuring every child arrives at school nourished and ready to learn.

Coverage: Government and Government-Aided schools around Koothanallur area.

Free Tuition Centre

MHCT operates a free tuition centre in Kudithangicherry village for students in Classes 4 to 8.

  • 34 students currently enrolled
  • 450 total beneficiaries
  • 6 PM to 8 PM daily
  • Sunday holiday

Subjects: Mathematics, English, and Science. Venue generously provided by a community volunteer.

Consistent and measurable improvement in academic performance has been observed, especially in subjects where rural students typically struggle.

Child Rights Awareness

MHCT conducts community awareness programs on child rights and child labour, educating parents, community leaders, and children themselves about the right to education and protection from exploitation.

Goal: A child labour-free society in every village we serve.

Program Area 05

A Healthier Planet for the Communities We Serve.

Sustainable development is not separate from social development, it is the foundation of it. Our environment and agriculture programs equip communities with the tools and knowledge to live sustainably and farm responsibly.

Tree Plantation Drive

MHCT organised a 10-day tree plantation campaign across 10 villages, planting 2,000 saplings including indigenous and fruit-bearing varieties on both private and public lands.

Partners: Women SHGs, farmers' groups, youth volunteers, and local community members.

Total saplings planted cumulatively: 5,000+

Organic Cultivation Training

With agriculture being the primary livelihood for most rural families in our area, particularly for SHG women who are small and marginal farmers, MHCT runs a continuous organic farming training program across 5 villages.

  • Traditional and indigenous cultivation methods
  • Vermicompost and farm compost production
  • Rainwater harvesting and farm pond construction
  • Reducing dependence on chemical fertilisers

Beneficiaries: 100 farmers trained across 5 villages.

Polythene-Free Awareness Campaign

Our polythene awareness campaign successfully influenced 4,000 families to abandon single-use plastic bags and adopt eco-friendly alternatives in their daily lives, contributing to a cleaner, greener community.

Program Area 06

No One in Our Community Goes Hungry.

Food security and nutrition are foundational to health, learning, and productivity. MHCT's nutrition programs ensure that children, residents, and vulnerable individuals receive adequate, nutritious food every day.

Residential School Meals

Daily nourishment for all residents All three special school residents receive three nutritious meals daily, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with refreshments.

CM Breakfast Scheme

350 students reached daily Government school students receive daily breakfast under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Morning Breakfast Scheme.

Nutritional Support - HIV+ Women

Focused support for vulnerable women Six women living with HIV received country chicks and a three-month food kit for sustained nutritional support.

Organic Farming for Food Security

Nutrition begins in the field Training farmers in organic cultivation improves household food security while reducing dependence on expensive chemical inputs.
